[YOUTH PROJECT] [RANGER PROJECT]

In its first two years, the Yiriman project has evolved to two main components.

(word 95 format)

Yiriman Youth Project: Boys & Girls Age 12-18 This component of the project concentrates on helping youth re-connect with people and place through organised positive trips with elders and family in country. It is hoped that these bush trips will relieve the pressures experienced by young people in town or community life, and allow them to identify and work through problems that are affecting them. These trips also aim to provide youth with alternative activities to harmful behaviours, and provide information and activities that will benefit their mind and bodies.
Yiriman Ranger Project: Men & Women Age 18-30

Increasingly with native title, old and young Indigenous men and women are given the opportunity to manage and care for country. The Yiriman Ranger Project aims to educate and train young people with the skills to manage country through various work projects. This component ties in closely with the Yiriman Youth Project, and aims to increase self esteem by providing youth with worthwhile activities away from the influences of drugs and alcohol. This component of the project is also working closely with other Indigenous and land management groups accross the Kimberly and in the Northern Territory.
